Back Pain

Back pain is very common. It is estimated 80% of people will experience back pain at some point during their lives.

Back Pain

Usually in the lower back, can refer into the legs, however back pain is usually worse than the leg pain. Certain movements/activities will make the pain worse, but if they are stopped the pain usually eases with rest. With this type of pain you should be able to keep fairly mobile and active.

Nerve Root Pain

This is where pain can travel from the lower back into the leg along a nerve pathway e.g. the sciatic nerve. Pain is usually worse in the leg than the back. The pain can be sharp or shooting. With this type of pain rest alone may not relieve the pain. Other symptoms may be present such as burning, tingling, weakness, numbness or difficulty moving the leg or foot. With this type of pain it is important to pace yourself to get the right balance between gentle activity and rest.

If your symptoms do not settle within a few days physiotherapy treatment will help your recovery. Speak to your GP or contact us at Lea Valley Physio clinic for an assessment.
