Orthopaedic Surgery

Today orthopaedic surgeons can replace joints, repair ligaments and tendons, remove the prolapsed part of an intervertebral disc or remove torn cartilage and advances are being made all the time. Surgery is inevitably painful and recovery will take time. Each surgeon has his or her own preferred recovery routine. Physiotherapy can play a part in the recovery by teaching you the correct exercises at the correct time in your recovery to help you return to full function as fast as possible. It is particularly useful if your recovery seems slower than planned. Please ask your surgeon when and if you require physiotherapy and then ask him or her to refer you.
